MAP Venture Group was founded by Daryl Joyce, Marco Marcou, Paul Salter and Vafa Shams. As the service offerrings have increased, so has the team members associated with the business, in particular, with a number of industry leaders joining either the Board of Directors or the Advisory Committee of MAP Venture Capital Pty Ltd.
Paul has both significant management and corporate finance experience having worked both in the corporate & consulting fields with experience across a number of industries, including manufacturing, entertainment & gaming, hospitality, telecommunications and information technology. Paul’s domain expertise is in the areas of telecommunications, information technology, gaming and multimedia.
As a Chief Financial Officer, Paul has worked for: Damovo Australia (1999 – 2002), where he led the acquisition of Telstra’s Service business (MBO & subsequent acquisition funded by APAX Partners – United Kingdom); and ACTTAB Limited (1997 – 1999). Paul has also worked in corporate finance & restructuring fields with Ernst & Young (1993 – 1995) and in IT systems consulting with KPMG Consulting (1995 – 1996).
Paul holds a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Melbourne), is a member of the Institute of Company Directors and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Daryl is one of Australia's best regarded TMT executives, whose industry record speaks for itself, he has been responsible for over $3 billion in sales in the Australian and Regional telecommunications sector. Daryl is currently a director of MAP Venture Partners (Holdings) Pty Limited and Ericsson Australia Pty Limited.
Daryl has spent the last 15 years managing major accounts and developing new business for Ericsson (in Australia & abroad), during which time he has held a number of senior executive roles in Ericsson, including: Director of Business Development (2001 – 2002); Director of Marketing (1999 – 2001); Director of 3G (1998 – 1999 ); Director of Telstra Sales & Marketing (1996 - 1998); Director of Mobile Networks (1995 - 1996); Marketing & Sales Manager Mobile Networks (1992-1 995); and Director of Information Systems & Technology (1986 – 1992). Daryl was also the responsible Ericsson executive for the Ericsson-Deutsche Technology Fund during 2001/2002, a $60 million fund, established in 2000.
Daryl is a past Board member and Vice President of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA). He holds a Diploma of Executive Development (IMD University of Lausanne, Switzerland).
Vafa is a highly experienced and qualified executive with an extensive, broad based background in Strategy, Business development, General Management and Account Management with several world leading global organisations. His domain expertise is in the development and execution of business strategies which leverage solution technology, organisational capabilities and partnerships to maximum competitive advantage in areas of converged Media, IT & Telecos.
Prior to joining MAP, Vafa had a diverse international network, working in Australia, Sweden, Japan and the United Kingdom. He gained this working with or for: Ericsson Australia, Northstream AB, Ericsson AB, Vodafone (Japan), NTT DoCoMo, Telia (Sweden), Tal (Iceland) and Schlumberger Oil. Vafa also lead much of the due diligence activities conducted by the Ericsson-Deutsche Technology Fund between 2000 and 2002.
Vafa holds a Master of Business Administration (Macquarie University) and a Bachelor of Electrical & Computer Systems Engineering – Honours (Monash University).
Marco has over 20 years experience in delivery highly complex management consulting projects in Australia, the USA and Asia. Marco’s domain expertise is in the areas of telecommunications, information technology, broadcasting and multimedia.
Marco has worked both independently and under contract to Deloitte Consulting, completing a number of assignments. In funds management for Deutsche Bank (Germany), Lend Lease Development Capital & Hastings Investments Australia. In the telecommunications sector for Vodafone (Asia Pacific), Telstra, Speedcast (Hong Kong), Time Telecom (Malaysia), Stet Telecom (Italy), Bell Canada, Adam Mobile (Malaysia) & Energy Australia. For original equipment manufacturers & software companies such as Quest Software Inc (USA) & Siemens (Asia Pacific). For broadcasters & regulators such as the ABC (Australia), Television New Zealand, South African Broadcasting Corporation & for the Prime Minister and Cabinet (Broadband Service Expert Group).
Marco holds a Master of Business Administration (Swinburne University of Technology) and a Bachelor of Arts (University of Melbourne).
